Prepare/Enrich Assessment & Counseling

Every relationship is different, and we'll work together to find out what you need. Have you had counseling before and it didn't feel right? Let's discuss what worked and what didn't.
"Love is not just a feeling, it's an art that we can all learn."
-Esther Perel
Therapy may help you and your relationship if:

-
You don't want to re-create the dynamics you saw between your parents, but aren't sure what a healthy relationship could look like.
-
You desire emotional safety, support, and love you didn’t receive in childhood or adulthood.
-
You avoid difficult conversations in your relationships because you don't want to lose the relationship, but being inauthentic is starting to eat away at your inner peace.
-
You want to rebuild trust after betrayal, infidelity, or other relational trauma.
-
You feel disconnected from your partner(s), friends, or family and don’t know where to start to create new patterns.
-
You want to stop the cycle of the same fights on repeat, and want to have understanding and connection in place of the current resentment.
-
You struggle to express your needs, desires, and emotions within your relationships.
-
You want to develop a deeper understanding of how trauma in your past is showing up in your current relationship and attachment needs.
-
You find it difficult to trust yourself as you start a new relationship, due to negative experiences from childhood or previous relationships.
-
Your want to build a healthy relationship, but feel haunted by old wounds, fear of rejection, or difficulties with being vulnerable.
Sarahbeth's specific areas of focus within relationship therapy include:

-
Helping individuals navigate cycles of defensiveness, withdrawing, shutting down, and anxious pursual. We can work together to create new patterns of communication.
-
Helping partners access vulnerability and transparency so they can be authentic about what they need. You deserve to be known and accepted by your partner.
-
Challenging societal standards and 'rules' that just don't work in your relationship, so that you can form a relationship that aligns with who you are.
-
Supporting partnerships after betrayal, breaches of boundaries, and relational trauma. It is possible to rebuild a healthy and loving connection after relational breakdowns.
-
Exploring non-traditional relationship dynamics (e.g., polyamory, swinging, open marriage, friends with benefits, solo polyamory, etc.). We often receive messages that tell us how our relationships should look and function. If you are ready to question or explore forms of relationships more aligned with your internal beliefs, this is a safe place to start.
-
Navigating the hurt and harm from years of built up disconnect and resentment. You might long to repair your relationship and heal from past moments, but maybe you don’t know how. Or you might question if it’s even worth it. We can work together to figure out what is best for both the relationship and the individuals in it.
All Relationship Dynamics and Structures Welcome
Usually, we think of relationship therapy for romantic and family struggles. However, we might have difficulties in relationships beyond traditional relationship structures and dynamics. Sessions with me can support and embrace a wide range of relationships, including:

-
Consensual non-monogamous relationships
-
Parents and their adult children
-
Siblings
-
Friendships
-
Engaged and married couples
-
Long-term and long-distance couples
-
Dating
-
Business partner
It might sound unusual to go to therapy with a friend, someone you're newly dating, or a business partner. These types of relationships are rarely highlighted in therapy. However, friendships can be the longest and most fulfilling relationships that many people have. If a friendship spans decades, difficulties might arise that need extra support and it could be devastating if the relationship ended due to misunderstandings or disconnect. You might struggle with stigmas or misconceptions that therapy is for traditional relationship structures and types, but I'm here to support any relationship you’re in and to help you process the complexities of all relationships that matter to you.
